Sending & tuning
Receiving covers every profile at once, so the other end can send on
whatever suits it. Nothing here has to match.
How much of the sync pattern has to agree. Reach tolerates about two wrong bits of
thirteen and will occasionally invent a message out of noise; Strict tolerates none.
Both are normalised, so a threshold means the same thing at arm's length as across a
room. Drop the sync one until the rejection line stops blaming sync, then raise it
again if noise starts arriving as messages.
